NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association)
NIRSA is “the leading resource for professional and student development, education, and research in collegiate recreational sports.” Its primary objective is “to provide for the education and development of professional and student members, and to foster quality recreational programs, facilities, and services for diverse populations.” NIRSA, like most other organizations, recognizes that assessment is a key component in accessing the most current information to help develop services and policies.
Membership opportunities are available to a wide variety of professionals, ranging from students to retired professionals.
NIRSA conducts an annual conference that brings the recreational sports community together to discuss new developments and trends within the field. Other opportunities available to NIRSA members include various institutes, workshops, publications, and networking possibilities designed to enhance professional development in the recreational sports field.
Assessment
In coordination with
StudentVoice, NIRSA has formulated a Recreational Sports benchmarking assessment project to understand and analyze the needs and outcomes of recreational facilities on campuses across North America. NIRSA’s
Research Center offers members access to all of the research initiatives of NIRSA and all associated data. Higher education administrators are able to utilize this information to assist in the formulation of services, programs, and policies on their campuses.
