Since we're around mid-terms, it is the perfect time to be assessing your Residence Life staff! How do you accomplish this task on your campus? Do you have residents evaluate the live-on staff? Do you also invite RAs to assess the administrative staff? What methods do you find are best for administering staff evaluations (e.g., web survey, paper survey at floor meetings)? Also, how do you increase your response rate?

Hello afeder,

In the past, at Park University we did an online survey through SV and did in depth questioning about Resident Assistant job responsibilities, satisfaction with floor programming, policy enforcement, and learning outcomes through RA programming. We also had our assessment survey built so it directs students to a page (less in depth) about the live-on staff from their building, and then everyone on campus assessed me.

The home campus of Park University houses about 400 students, and our residential staffing plan has changed every year as we have grown; so this year we did the same thing as above, only we had every student rate both the professional live-on staff (since we get the opportunity to interact with most students). We always leave the option for each question as "I have not interacted with..." or "don't know."

Good luck.
