CHEA is “a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.” Its purposes are advocacy, service, and recognition. As a large advocate for accreditation, CHEA requires institutions to partake in regular self-assessment to maintain accreditation.
CHEA provides relevant information on accreditation through research and many
publications. This information is available to the public as well as its members.
Assessment
Assessment is an important part of accreditation. CHEA recognizes many accrediting associations as well as serves as an accrediting association. The use of assessment is necessary in this process.
