Please request a
New StudentVoice Project and indicate in the
Additional Notes section that this project will be used as a
data upload.
When the request has been completed, upload the document that contains your data into the
Project Files module on your project dashboard. Please note that the data
must be formatted as follows:
- Use a spreadsheet document (i.e., Microsoft Excel)
a. Preferred format: Save data as an Excel or a text tab delimited file
- Data cannot be aggregate – you must have data separated out for each specific respondent
a. Each question should have its own column (the questions would be listed going across the top of the spreadsheet)
b. Each row on the spreadsheet (numbers going down on the left hand side) would represent one respondent. And the data that goes across from the row would represent all the respondents corresponding answers.
- Answer choices may be in either text form (as seen in the image below) or coding (numbers used as answers in data file instead of text, e.g., 3 - 1). If numeric coding is used, please provide an accompanying “codebook” that specifies the actual written answer choice that each number stands for. This codebook should be submitted in either a Word or PDF format. If a codebook does not exist, an actual copy of the survey with questions and answer choices would also be acceptable.
a. For example, for answers using the numbers 3-1
3 = Increased
2 = Stayed the same
1 = Decreased
On the image below, you will see that the columns (B-E) represent the questions/categories.
The rows (2-7) contain information (answer responses) for each respondent.
Row 2 on the image contains the answers for the survey taker
Elan: He took math; gave the lunch a 5, which means excellent; and would have liked to eat veggie burgers.
In contrast,
Ingrid took music, thought the lunch was poor (1), and would have liked to eat vermicelli spring salad.
