Decentralized vs. Centralized Assessment

Modified: 2008/08/05 10:39 by admin - Uncategorized
In a centralized model, one office or administrator assumes responsibility for assessment. In a decentralized model, assessment is the responsibility of multiple people or offices, with no central oversight or designated staff.

The offices and or arrangements listed below are all common approaches to staffing and conducting assessment work on campus:

  • Office of Institutional Research
  • Office of Assessment (with staff)
  • Full-time assessment professional (with no additional staff)
  • Part-time assessment professional
  • Additional assignment to an existing staff member
  • Assessment committee
  • Directors (responsible for their own unit only)
